CLEVELAND, Ohio - The USS Cod Submarine Memorial plans to use its deck gun to keep the mythical Lake Erie Monster or any other Halloween horrors at bay during its annual "Red Light Haunted History Tours" on October 16 and 17.
The deck gun will be fired every 30 minutes during the 7-9:30 p.m. program that features tours of the historic World War II submarine under the same red-light conditions used in combat after dark.
During the tours visitors will be treated to tales and bizarre stories from the Cod's history.
"Among the true stories we tell include how the only crewman lost during Cod's entire war service foresaw his demise due to a family curse," said Paul Farace, director of the memorial, in a news release.
Tickets are $10 for all ages at the gate, and free parking is available at the memorial, located on North Marginal Road between West Ninth Street and Burke Lakefront Airport on the North Coast Harbor.
Proceeds from the event benefit the preservation and maintenance of the submarine that served on seven war patrols, sinking more than 12 enemy ships and rescuing the crew of a Dutch submarine.
